It has been a month now since I have had the Philips Jamie Oliver Hand Blender in my kitchen. I must say that it has become an indispensable tool. It is so very easy to use and being handheld means I can use it to blend directly in my pan or pot for the perfect soup or gravy. I find that it is also a marvellous time-saver to whizz small batches of anything from pesto to the sambal (a condiment that is chilli-based) I so often use in my cooking.
Here, I would like to show you 2 of our favourite foods to prepare using the new Philips Jamie Oliver Hand Blender.
A Hearty Pumpkin Soup
Going to Jack’s Place or Swenson’s, one dish that the kids always order are the soups. They love it with a good sprinkling of black pepper, which they will eagerly twist and crush, and warm crusty garlic bread. Lobster Bisque and Mushroom are undoubtedly their favourites. I am not too sure if they have ever had pumpkin soup when I decided that I was going to make some having picked up a beautiful green freckled pumpkin at the supermarket.
Steamed Sambal Groupa
We eat a lot of fish in my household. There is fish daily for dinner, sometimes 2, a fried and steamed version. To keep taste buds tantalised and dinner interesting we often try to attempt different ways and recipes to cook up our slippery swimmers.
It’s a bit of an oxymoron, to me anyway, to feature sambal in steamed fish, for largely, anything steamed is deemed to be ‘qing’ (light and clear, easy on the palate and stomach). This chilli-based condiment is usually reserved for fried dishes.
I was not very keen to fry up my groupa friend and wanted to enjoy the delicious flesh moist and soft. We have done to death steaming our fish in variations of soy sauce with ginger, salted vegetables with tomatoes and sour plum, teochew style etc. So I experimented.
You know, somehow, I get this reassurance with this great team up between Philips and Jamie Oliver. The latter for his commitment to bring to households all over the world easy quick healthy meals and the former for their advancement in manufacturing household appliances that eases us off our daily chores. It cannot get any better for a home chef.
