If you are looking for impressive, yet easy-to-make, finger food for the next dinner party, we are sharing with you a list of deceptively simple-yet-elegant appetizers that you might like to try making them on the Philips Avance XL Airfryer.
As you might have read it in our earlier 2 posts (Post #1, Post #2) you’d know that with a Philips Avance XL Airfryer, it’s a complete hands down on how this great kitchen appliance offers a healthier alternative to deep frying, using 80% less oil to cook food yet it’s so easy to maintain and care for. It also helps in saving time, effort and can churn out delicious food and snacks!
With the festivity around the corner where everyone is busy partying and merry making, it’s really easy to prepare all the fun and tasty snacks for our guests during our home parties, using the Philips Avance XL Airfryer. Since we are using store bought readymade puff pastry, it’ll be good to note that there are usually two types of readymade puff pastry in the market.
We usually purchase the sheet pastry which is ready and evenly rolled out in sheets. There is another type which comes in a block, this would require a little more time to thaw and muscle grease to roll out into a desired thickness. These readymade puff pastry dough/sheet, can be usually found at the frozen food section of the super market.
Here are three great party appetizers, both sweet and savoury that you can make to impress and please your guests with :
1) Cinnamon Sugar Puffs (sweet)
To prepare this, you’d need 2 sheets of readymade puff pastry, 1-2 tbsp of cinnamon sugar, crushed almond, chocolate rice, egg wash and a cookie cutter.
Process: Sprinkle Cinnamon Sugar, Crushed Almond and Chocolate Rice all over the sheet of puff pastry, you may stack the second sheet of puff pastry on top of the previous one, with a cookie cutter cut the puff pastry into shape. With a fork, press the edge of the shaped puff pastry in place to allow the 2 sheets of puff pastry stick together nicely. Brush a coat of egg-wash on the surface of the puff pastry then bake in the Airfryer at 180C for 8-10mins or until golden brown.
2) Pigs in Blankets (savoury)
This is by far an all-time favourite of many people. It’s also one of the easiest to prepare. Here’s what is needed – 1 sheet of readymade puff pastry, 1 can of cocktail sausages.
Process: Use a pizza cutter, cut the square puff pastry sheet into half (vertically), then cut strips of about 1.5cm wide (horizontally). Roll each sausage with the puff pastry strip.
Brush with egg-wash, sprinkle some dried parsley (optional) and bake in the Airfryer at 180C for 8-10mins or until golden brown.
3) Spinach & Bacon with Cheese Swirls (savoury)
The Spinach & Bacon with Cheese Swirls are a tempting treat, they look like they are difficult to make but they’re not!
The ingredients needed for these are 1 sheet of readymade puff pastry, 3 slices of back bacon (cut into short strips), 2 handfuls of baby spinach (boiled, drained and chopped), 2 tbsp of parmesan cheese, sprinkle of shredded cheddar.
Process: Lay all the back bacon strips on the sheet of puff pastry, top with chopped spinach and sprinkle the cheeses on top. Roll from the bottom edge of the puff pastry like a swiss roll to the other end of the puff pastry sheet.
Slice the the rolled up puff pastry in 1 inch width (as seen on the photo above). Brush a light coat of egg-wash on the sides and surface of the swirl pastry. Bake in the Airfryer at 180C for 10 mins or until golden brown.
1) In order for the puff pastry to achieve really a crispy crunch it has to be kept cold, while you are baking one batch of the puff pastry in the Airfryer, keep the rest in a container within the refrigerator.
2) To save time, you may wish to prepare this snack a few days before the party by freezing the ready rolled out and filled up puff pastry (raw) in the freezer. First freeze them on a sheet and once frozen, transfer to a zip-lock bag. Just lay them in a row in the bag and when you need before the party begins or if there’s a need to replenish, just take the required amount out, preheat the Airfryer and bake them accordingly, without thawing. The frozen uncooked puff pastry snacks could last for up to 2-3 weeks.
There you have it, it isn’t that difficult after all isn’t it? For more information about the Philips Avance XL Airfryer, do visit their official website for details.
