Stepping into Charly T’s at 112 Katong and being introduced the menu, memories of dining at Kenny Rogers come to mind. Mostly because of its Rotisserie Chicken.
Charly T’s is a family-friendly restaurant which prides itself as serving quality food and at easy on the pocket prices. It is famed for its meticulously marinated (over 13 hours!) Chicken which is then slowly roasted Rotisserie style, allowing the Chicken to cook in its own juices. Salivating yet? I like my chicken plump, flavourful and juicy and this was yum!
To complete your meal , you can pick from 4 side dishes; Steamed Fresh Vegetables, Butter Garlic Rice, German Potato Salad and Macaroni and Cheese.
For the health conscious, you will be delighted to know that you can have your ‘Mac and Cheese, and eat it too!’ The recipe used is from award-winning Chef Rozanne Gold’s “Eat Fresh Food” cookbook and it contains less cheese and includes fresh cauliflower.
My preferred carbo indulgence was the German Potato Salad. I liked that Charly T’s uses whole potatoes and not mash (which often comes in highly processed pre-powdered form). The bacon bits of course sealed the deal *winks*
For Beverages, we tried the refreshing concoctions of Charly T’s Odysseys ($7+). I particularly loved the Red Tang Odyssey; a blend of strawberry, cranberry and lychee.
Also featured : Green Flash (Green apple, orange, pineapple), CA Breezing (Carrot, green apple, celery, watermelon)
At first glance, the Kalua Pork did not look as appealing as its Chicken cousin. But OH! .. OH! .. this was one of the most tender and melt-in-your-mouth pork that I have tasted. To do that extra run to burn this off is too worth it. This is also a must try!
The Kansas City BBQ Back Ribs was rich in flavour though it could have a little more tender. Guess the Kalua Pork really raised the bar.
The Kaiserschmarrn is a traditional Austrian dessert; a light, shredded pancake made from a sweet batter and topped off with icing sugar and caramelized raisins, served with vanilla ice cream. It was delightful and a delicious end to the meal.
To keep the kids occupied, there is a kids’ corner where they can catch cartoon programmes. The bookworm will enjoy the thoughtfully stocked library of books while the creative can doodle away with the colouring materials provided.
