Happy Call Pan Beef Roll (Gyu Nanban Yaki)

This Japanese inspired dish is so easy and quick to do! Cooking it in the Happy Call Pan, the beef retains its juiciness from the pressure cooking when the pan is sealed shut. Fast to cook Good to eat!


300g sliced beef
(i used the ready packed thinly sliced frozen shabu shabu beef available in the frozen section sold in most well stocked supermarkets)
100g spring onion
Black pepper


200ml Mirin
200 ml cooking sake
200 ml Japanese soy sauce
150g sugar


1. Mix the ingredients for the sauce together
2. Line spring onions together and cut neatly into 10cm sections
3. Wrap and roll the beef slices around the spring onions
4. Heat up the pan
5. Place the beef rolls in the pan, using a cooking brush, coat the beef rolls with the sauce
6. Snap shut the pan and grill the beef rolls in the pan
7. Open the pan after 2 mins, turn the rolls and repeat the coating of the sauce, snap shut the pan
8. Repeat step 7 until you reach the doneness of the beef you desire
9. Remove from pan and sprinkle with black pepper
10. Garnish and serve.
