Home made Char Siew

Char Siew at its best when it's home made

800gms of pork (preferred cut Shoulder Butt or Tender Loin)
*Washed and pat dry thoroughly

2tbsp Hoisin Sauce
1tbsp Oyster Sauce
1tbsp Honey
2tsp Light Soya Sauce
1tsp Dark Soya Sauce
1tsp Hua Tiao Wine (or Chinese Rose Wine)
few drops of sesame oil
1/2 tsp Chinese Five-Spice powder (optional)
1tbsp Sugar
2tsp Garlic Powder
2tsp Onion Powder
a dash of white pepper

1) Mix all the ingredients of the marinade in a bowl till well combined
2) Rub the marinade well onto the pork
3) Leave the pork to marinate in a container for at least 3hrs (best overnight)
4) Preheat oven at 170C
5) Line a baking tray with aluminium foil and lightly grease it
6) Place the pork onto the prepared tray and grill it for 30mins
7) Bring the baking tray out and flip the pork to the other side and  continue to grill for another 20mins
8) Remove the pork out of the tray and let it cool slightly before carving it

*If you wish to have some char siew sauce here’s what you can do –
Dilute the marinade with a little water and heat it on a pan till it bubbles
